Thank you for visiting Sites Unseen! This is a travel blog that will focus on the aspects of travel that go beyond mere visual experiences. There is far more to the world than what our eyes tell us, and I’d like for you, as the reader, to join me as I set out to discover the world through a non-visual lens. But why non-visual, you may ask? Let me explain!
Who Am I?
My name is Clement, and I love to travel. I was born into a family of mixed cultures and raised in Canada. I love food, music, martial arts, and am open to trying just about anything. I was also born completely blind due to a genetic condition called Norie disease. But even with my blindness, I have always loved the thought of adventure. All the stories, TV shows and movies I read and watched growing up sparked something in me from a young age, and I longed to be out in the world, exploring what it had to offer. And yet, my blindness was always something that felt like it would be a stumbling block. But not anymore! Or at least, less so.
After 15 years of working with international students and learning about cultures from all over the world, I don’t think it’d be an understatement to say my eyes have been opened to the realization of just how incredible our world is, and that by simply talking to others, we can learn about cultures and lifestyles that radically differ from our own. So maybe it doesn’t have to be a trip over rough terrain and dangerous and undiscovered territory. Perhaps travelling anywhere, and discovering what this vast world has to offer without the use of my eyesight will be enough of an adventure to last a lifetime. So join me as I explore what it looks like to travel while relying on 4 out of the 5 senses, as I find the hidden gems that so often get missed when we only rely on our sight!
